Anyone who talks with David Ige, Talent Attraction Strategist at Alaska Airlines, will appreciate his perspective and experience in Recruitment Marketing. And his passion.
David started his career as a copywriter at a branding agency. It was there he “fell in love” with the idea of branding and how it has a hand in every niche of a business. He took that branding strategy and applied it as he progressed through his career, eventually going into brand management and employment branding services.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently in your transition into Recruitment Marketing?
While David’s transition to Recruitment Marketing was somewhat of a natural progression, looking back, if he could do it all over again, David says he would have spent more time learning marketing and human resources before diving into employment branding.
“Those marketing ideas didn’t exactly fit with the recruiting space. So, trying to understand both worlds I think would have helped me a great deal,” David explained.
What are the most useful skills to have in Recruitment Marketing?
If you want to become a Recruitment Marketer, David says understanding data and how to interpret that data are important skills.
“I think understanding human behavior at scale is going to come from those data points. Another critical skill is the ability to understand people’s behaviors and personalities and how to connect to them — how to keep your finger on the pulse of people’s emotions and to enhance that for business value,” David added.
What would you say is the greatest Recruitment Marketing roadblock for companies trying to adopt tactics?
David says one of the biggest reasons why companies are unsure about how much to invest in Recruitment Marketing is because they’re unsure how to measure its value to a business’ bottom line.
“Recruitment Marketing practices are maturing and moving in the right direction. There are a lot of people who are trying to measure employee value in terms of revenue and there are tools out there. I think it’s coming to that point where we’re able to find that business value,” David said.
David joined the Rally Recruitment Marketing community because of his passion for the field and it’s the same passion that makes him a great RallyRM Mentor.
