Employer branding can feel like a high-stakes initiative. For many, defining and launching an employer brand is a career-defining project—months of research, stakeholder alignment and messaging development. But what if you don’t have months? Or what if you’re a solo practitioner or part of a small team without the budget or leadership buy-in for a full-scale employer brand initiative? The good news: you don’t have to wait to get started.
Taking a quick-start approach means embracing progress over perfection. Instead of waiting for a major project to take shape, you can leverage AI and a structured framework to build an initial employer value proposition (EVP) that can be refined over time. This practical approach will enable you to move forward with clarity and confidence while laying the groundwork for a more comprehensive employer brand strategy down the line.
Let me share the quickstart guide that I use when teaching employer branding, to help you jump in with confidence!
Step 1: Use AI to Audit Your Employer Brand Presence
One of the biggest hurdles to employer branding is knowing where to start. The fastest way? Use a generative AI tool to audit your existing employer brand presence. This means analyzing what your company is already saying about itself across your career sites, social media channels and job postings. AI can also help you aggregate external perspectives from employee reviews, candidate feedback and recruiter insights.
Try this: Pull your job descriptions, social media posts, and careers page content into an AI tool and ask it to summarize the themes. Then, compare that with real-world feedback from employees and candidates to see where gaps exist. This step alone can help you establish a baseline understanding of your employer brand.
Step 2: Conduct a “Truth-Telling” Employer Branding Workshop
Employer branding doesn’t have to start with an executive-led initiative. Instead, gather key stakeholders—whether it’s just your recruiting team or a mix of recruiters, hiring managers, and employees—for a quick truth-telling session.
In this workshop, break the conversation into two questions:
- What do we say about ourselves? (What’s on our careers site, social media, and job ads?)
- What do others say about us? (What’s in reviews, candidate surveys, and recruiter feedback?)
I recently led this exercise for a global NGO that was struggling to attract talent, despite the incredible mission-driven work they do. By facilitating a candid discussion among their talent acquisition and HR team, I helped them uncover key insights about their employer brand perception. In just a short session, we developed a foundational EVP that was 70-80% of what a large-scale project would have produced—proving that you don’t need months of research to get started. This process is fast, effective, and gives you an actionable starting point to refine over time.

Step 3: Identify & Optimize Your Recruitment Marketing Channels
Many employer brand practitioners underestimate the number of channels they are already using to communicate their message. According to data from our Rally Inside Recruitment Marketing Platform, on average, teams are leveraging 29 different recruiting channels beyond job boards—channels such as social media, email newsletters, talent communities, events and more.
By mapping out where your messaging is appearing—and where candidates are searching for and discussing your company—you can focus on the most effective places to shape the narrative. AI can help by analyzing performance metrics to determine which channels have the most engagement and influence.
Step 4: Use AI to Generate Your Initial Employer Value Proposition (EVP)
After collecting insights, use AI to draft an initial EVP. While this version won’t be 100% perfect, it will serve as a solid starting point. AI can analyze your findings and suggest key themes that resonate with your employer brand, helping you craft messaging that is both authentic and data-backed.
Try this: Input your collected insights into an AI tool and ask it to generate three EVP statements. Then, refine them based on stakeholder feedback. This approach ensures you have something tangible to start activating—without waiting months for formal branding exercises. Step 5: Develop Your EVPs from an Employee Survey
Now you’re ready to develop a fuller EVP by incorporating the perspective of your employees. One of the most effective ways to build out an EVP is by leveraging direct employee insights about why they joined your company and why they stay. If you’ve conducted an employee survey, you can use AI to analyze the responses and uncover the core themes that define your workplace experience.
Here’s a proven AI prompt that I teach in my Rally Academy course, Mastering AI for Employer Branding:
Prompt:
I’m working to develop our employer brand. I previously asked you to analyze the responses to this employee survey to give me your key insights. I have provided your key insights below. Now I want you to analyze the responses to this employee survey to create a tagline and the top 5 EVPs based on what our employees say they value about working at our company. For the tagline, make sure it uniquely conveys our company. For each EVP, give it a punchy title, followed by punchy marketing copy description (that doesn’t include our company name). Then after each EVP, list 3 proof points, in bullets, as stated by our employees. Finally, tell me how these EVPs support your key insights, to ensure there is alignment.
Your key insights: [paste insights here]
Employee survey responses: [attach a spreadsheet with responses]
Using this structured prompt, you can extract valuable insights directly from your employees and build an EVP that reflects their authentic experiences and values.
Don’t have employee survey responses? No problem! You can customize this prompt to use the transcript from an employee focus group, employee exit interviews, or employee reviews from your Glassdoor or Indeed page, as long as you have enough representation of employee voices and authentic answers to what they think about working at your company.
Step 6: Test & Refine Your Employer Brand Messaging
You did it, you create an EVP using our quick-start method. But your work isn’t over. Once you have your quick EVP, start testing messaging across different platforms—your job postings, LinkedIn page, employee spotlights and even recruiter outreach messages. Track and measure candidate engagement with your content and messaging and gather employee and candidate feedback, and refine accordingly.
Remember, employer branding is not a one-and-done project. The most successful brands evolve over time, and a quick-start approach allows you to have something to begin with and make real-time improvements while keeping momentum.
The Takeaway: Take Action Now to Build a Strong Employer Brand
Building an employer brand can seem overwhelming, but you don’t need a massive budget or an executive mandate to begin. By using AI and a structured but agile approach, you can quickly establish a foundational employer brand that is “good enough” to start with, then refine it as you learn how it resonates with candidates and employees alike.
If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to start—this is it. Gather your team, use AI to analyze your brand presence and begin shaping a compelling employer brand that grows with your organization. You have the tools, the knowledge and the strategy—now take that first step and put your employer brand into action with confidence!
